On Monday, November 19th, 20 Bailey Park 1st and 2nd graders accompanied by leaders Lisa York and Tony Farmer, joined Mayflower healthcare residents for reading and drawing. John Sadler honored at his 90th birthday party

90 Years Old…Party Time!

On Saturday, November 17th, Mayflower residents and friends celebrated the 90th birthday of resident John Sadler. John chose a unique buffet dinner and drinks for the event, which were served in Mayflower’s Buckley Dining Room. Included was red cabbage that came out black as it was fried with bacon grease sans vinegar and sugar. Delicious!

Local yoga instructor, Kim Weaver, has been offering chair yoga classes at Mayflower for three years. Recognized as one of Grinnell’s outstanding yoga teachers, Kim offers a low-impact program with participants sitting in or standing by chairs. (No trying to figure out how to get up off the floor!) The classes run for 45 minutes

Sweeten the Writing with Wine and Fellowship

A Mayflower residents’ activity designed to help deal with winter isolation will be offered, starting in January. Led by Mayflower resident, Grinnell College Writing Lab professor, and writer, Betty Moffett (Yes, of “Too Many String Band” fame!), the six-week course will run from January 7th through February 11th on Monday nights from 7:00 to 8:15pm.

9,000 Piece Puzzle!

Last summer, the daughter and granddaughter of Mayflower resident, John Noer, give him a 9,000-piece puzzle (really, 9,000!) as a combination Father’s Day and birthday present. Ironically, John, who is an active puzzler, had been contemplating the purchase of a similar-sized puzzle. It came in a plastic tub. There were two bags full of pieces.
