On Saturday, November 17th, Mayflower residents and friends celebrated the 90th birthday of resident John Sadler. John chose a unique buffet dinner and drinks for the event, which were served in Mayflower’s Buckley Dining Room. Included was red cabbage that came out black as it was fried with bacon grease sans vinegar and sugar. Delicious!
A huge crowd was present during an afternoon that included a residents’ musical duet in the Carman Center, the movie “The Greatest Show on Earth” in the Kiesel Theatre, and the televised University of Iowa football game. But, people gotta eat…and honor John.
John became a Mayflower resident in September 2012 when he traded his home adjacent to the campus for life-long Mayflower residency. The home then became a Mayflower Harwich Terrace home until John moved into a Buckley building apartment in January 2016. Last May, John was inducted into Mayflower’s Club 90 by virtue of having his 90th birthday in 2018. Now, he has all the privileges of being older!
