The Music Is Back at Mayflower

After a short hiatus for COVID-19 precautions, The Mayflower Community has resumed musical performances in the Carman Center for Health Center and Beebe Assisted Living residents.

On Tuesday, February 22nd, guitarist/keyboardist, Ronnie Burgess of Cedar Rapids IA, played and sang for residents. He was hosted by Mayflower’s Community Life and Wellness staff, Leslie Jaworski, Tracy Woolfolk, and Jessica Hasenyager.

To celebrate the event, Mayflower Foodservices staff, led by Supervisor Jacob Staroska, served homemade hot chocolate with wafers.

Ron has been playing a mix of old standards and country and gospel music since 1962. His family has performed around Marshalltown, where he was born. For 15 years prior to his brother’s death in 2019, the family played a monthly barn event in Gilman.

50 years ago, Ron played music in bars and restaurants; Elks, Eagles and Moose clubs; American Legions; and golf clubs. After giving it up for a while, he decided to do music again, playing up to 25 senior events per month. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ron has played private parties and other gatherings.
