Supporting Seniors Fitness

In Celebration of National Senior Health Day, The Mayflower Community (Grinnell IA) will be offering Functional Fitness Tests to its residents on Wednesday, May 29th from 9:00 to 11:30 am. The event will be held in the Montgomery Lounge.

The series of tests will assess the functional daily activities of older adults. This is an easy and effective way to measure aerobic fitness, strength, and flexibility. Wellness Specialists from UnityPoint Health—Grinnell’s Paul W. Ahrens Fitness Center will be on site to assist in the testing.

Kayley Thompson, Wellness Specialist at UnityPoint Health—Grinnell, says, “This is a national day to celebrate seniors and being healthy. When I helped do these assessments in a college internship, I found that seniors really benefited from them.”

The evaluations include chair stand, arm curl, two-minute step test, chair sit and reach, get up and go, and back scratch test.

Refreshments and a door prize drawing will be available.
