College Students Move into Mayflower

On Monday, May 20th, five Grinnell College students moved into Mayflower Community apartments for short-term stays while they are in training to become Certified Nurse Aides (CNAs). A total of 10 students are enrolled in a special program being conducted on the Mayflower campus (Grinnell IA). Working in conjunction with Grinnell College and Iowa Valley Community College, Mayflower is providing intensive training that includes the required CNA coursework as well as mandated Adult Abuse Prevention certification and history data-gathering about Health Center residents.

They will be in training until June 20th to complete these requirements under the tutelage of Vickie Wieck, RN, Mayflower Associative Director of Nursing, and Rhonda Hudson, LBSW, Mayflower Social Worker.

Five of the students have off-campus housing. The other five that moved into Mayflower apartments are Alyssa Hyndman, Linda Peng, and Elizabeth Wesselborg, living in the Buckley building, and Kevin Gubner and Sterling Yang, living in the Pearson building.
