Rev. Len Eberhart Planning to Retire…Again!

The Rev. Len Eberhart, a Grinnell resident since 2002, has announced his retirement from chaplaincy at The Mayflower Community, effective June 30, 2019. Len retired from full time ministry after 10 years as the senior pastor at Grinnell United Methodist Church and joined the Mayflower staff as chaplain in 2012.

A native of South Dakota, Len was ordained into United Methodist ministry in 1973 and served churches in Frankfort, Germany; South Dakota; and Iowa before coming to Grinnell. At Mayflower, Len’s duties have included chaplaincy to Beebe Assisted Living residents, staff coordinator for the Mayflower Residents Association Tuesday morning chapel services, and individual spiritual counseling.

Len’s wife Diane, an ordained United Methodist Deacon, will be retiring from her current position at Walnut Hills United Methodist Church, Urbandale, Iowa on the same day, June 30th.

Rev. Christine Tinker has been serving as Mayflower’s Spiritual Care Coordinator since 2008. No decision has been made regarding Len’s successor.

Steve Langerud, Mayflower Executive Director, said,

“Len has served a key role in the life of Mayflower, especially since no other Grinnell senior living community provides staff chaplaincy services. Thank you, Len, for your kindness, good counsel, and humor. We will miss you.”
