Recycling Is Alive at Mayflower

mayflower logoRecycling is working in The Mayflower Community. When the City of Grinnell ceased pick-up of single-stream recycling July 1st, Mayflower put into effect a campus recycle alternative.

For our Watertower Square residents, nothing changed. We are still collecting single stream recycle as well as cardboard in the building. The building was designed with trash and recycle chutes on each of the three floors that empty to the underground garage level. There, our Facilities staff daily pick up the items and drive them to the City’s Public Service Department collection site, 1st and East.

For the rest of campus, Mayflower maintains a large rolling dumpster in our service building on Mayflower Lane between 1st and 2nd avenues. All independent living residents can bring their recycle (no glass!) to this site. It is picked up twice weekly by the City (thank you!). So far, we have been filling the dumpster to the brim before each pick-up.

We are still recycling at Mayflower!
