Harpist Sooths at Mayflower

Laurel Tuggle Lacina played harp in Mayflower’s Montgomery Lounge on Thursday afternoon, October 25, 2018 as a gift to passers-by. Laurel is a Grinnell-Newburg School District Board member and a manager at the Grinnell Area Arts Council.

She talked a bit about the harp and answered questions before playing for a small audience. A Mayflower resident who stopped by noted, “On a hectic day it was really nice to have opportunity to de-stress and experience peacefulness.” Another said, “Laurel’s music is beautiful, calming, and peaceful! Feeling grateful for this interlude for pausing to do slow, meditative breathing in the midst of a busy day. There is so much at Mayflower that enriches our lives!”

Grinnell music therapist (and Mayflower therapist), Kellie Robertson, has recruited Laurel (harp), Kathy O’Connor (singing bowls), and Milton Severe (guitar and vocals) to offer a Music and Health program for the Grinnell community. Likely, one or two of them will visit Mayflower once or twice a month to share.
