Tail Gating Fun at the Mayflower

On Saturday, September 25, just prior to the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and a bunch of other afternoon football games, residents of The Mayflower Community gathered in the Buckley Courtyard to Tail Gate.

The buffet luncheon consisted of brats and hamburgers on the grill, chicken wings, nachos, chips, malt cups and beer and soft drinks.

Residents could choose to sit in the pleasant, sunny-and-shade setting of the Courtyard or inside in the Buckley Dining Room. They were encouraged to wear their team moniker clothing. “Cheese heads” were allowed to mingle freely!

To punctuate the fun, a trivia contest was held regarding college and high school sports, specifically football. The star contestant was Rick Ramsey, who is apparently doing nothing now days except reading sports trivia books. Either that or he was Carnac the Magnificent posing as a cheese head.

The event was organized and served by the Mayflower Foodservices staff and hosted by residents, John and Dorothy Martinek and Fred and Patty Johnson.
