Aubrie Torhorst, a Grinnell College senior art major and co-captain of the College golf team, has conducted several workshops with Mayflower Community Health Center residents. In this volunteer work, the Wisconsin native displayed some of her artwork and directed residents as they did their own drawings. Last October, Aubrie led a session to produce monsters.
Before the weather turned cold and windy over this last weekend, Mayflower Community’s Community Life and Wellness staff accompanied Health Center residents on a tour of Mayflower’s and Grinnell’s Christmas lights. On Monday, November 7th, The Mayflower Community residents living in Beebe Assisted Living and the Health Center participated in a “Roka Ceremony” viewing. A Roka Ceremony is one of the most significant ceremonies that takes place before a wedding in India. This ceremony marks the union of both the bride’s and groom’s families and friends.
