Over the weekend of April 3rd – 5th, Easter was celebrated in The Mayflower Community. On Friday, Health Center and Beebe Assisted Living residents decorated and dyed Easter eggs. Helen and Dale Lippincott celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, March 24th in The Mayflower Community Health Center. The couple met in high school when she was a freshman and he was a sophomore. Helen knew she liked Dale. Subsequently, he left school to serve for two years in the Navy. When he returned,
On March 25th, International Waffle Day was celebrated in The Mayflower Community (Grinnell IA) Beebe Assisted Living and Health Center. With the assistance of Mayflower’s Foodservices kitchen, led by Supervisor Jacob Staroska, residents enjoyed mini-Belgium waffles. Available were a variety of toppings—fresh whipped cream, raspberries, blueberries, chocolate chips, pecans, butter, and traditional and sugar-free syrup.
Jean Libbey, Grinnell Mayflower Community resident, was surprised with a birthday celebration gathering on Saturday, March 20th in Grinnell’s Central Park. Organized by Jean’s daughters and son-in-law, the event marked Jean’s 90th birthday. The Mayflower Community just completed a “Spring Break” for Health Center and Beebe Assisted Living residents. The good news: No arrests for disorderly conduct. This all means we are rounding the corner of this insipid pandemic thing. It helps that all but two of all those Mayflower residents are fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 infection.
The Mayflower Community has resumed activities for Health Center residents in the second floor Carman Center. Late Mayflower Community resident, Timer (Norman Van) McCombs, was recently remembered. Friend and service veteran, Steve Cranston, contacted Mayflower on behalf of the Deep River (Iowa) American Legion Post #296. He explained their organization wanted to do something in the memory of their friend and longtime Mayflower resident. Their goal was to do something that
