The class will culminate with a Salsa party on Tuesday, August 20th with a dance lesson at 5:00pm on the Buckley patio that will be followed by a special Venezuelan-themed dinner.

The Mayflower Community is offering this special opportunity because of the benefits to brain health: learning something new, community building, enhancement of touch, socialization opportunity….and having FUN!

Salsa is a popular form of social dance originating from Cuban folk dances. Different regions of Latin America and the United States have distinct salsa styles of their own, such as Cuban, Puerto Rican, Cali Colombia, L.A. and New York styles. Salsa dance socials are commonly held in nightclubs, bars, ballrooms, restaurants, and outdoors, especially when part of a festival.

Silvia Ardila began salsa dancing in her native Caracas, Venezuela – Upon moving to San Juan, Puerto Rico she joined one of the area’s top Salsa Academies as a trainer. She regularly attends Puerto Rican Salsa festivals and performances, expanding her repertoire of steps and turns.

The cost per session is $5.00. There is no need to come to all the lessons. Back-up site for inclement weather will be the Mayflower Montgomery Lounge. The cost for the Venezuelan dinner—limited to residents and their guests—is $10 for the first 100 who make reservations. Sign up for the dinner by contacting the Mayflower kitchen (641-236-6151 x216).

Please sign up for the lessons in the Mayflower Pearson lobby or by contacting Anne Sunday, Mayflower’s Independent Living Activities Coordinator
