Mayflower Residents Association Town Meeting

On Monday, October 21st, 87 Mayflower (Grinnell) residents and six staff members met to participate in the quarterly agenda of the Mayflower Residents Association (MRA). Resident associations are required by law in senior living communities. But, this one is REAL! The 287 Mayflower residents are represented by a leadership group and 13 standing committees that are responsible for a wide variety of campus events and activities in The Mayflower Community. The MRA officerships and committees are composed of 75 residents.

Besides conducting regular business, including committee and task force reports, the MRA heard from a number of Mayflower staff about various initiatives. Included was Executive Director, Steve Langerud, reporting on healthcare and independent living developments.

The new Community Engagement Coordinator, Mindy Bacon, described her one-on-on and group work that provides support to residents with various stages of dementia. Mindy is a certified Independent Public Trainer for Positive Approach, LLC.

Mayflower’s 24-year veteran Director of Food Service, Scott Gruhn, announced the new Open Dining menu that has now been introduced in the independent living Buckley Dining Room. Besides a grill, dinner salad, and full “home style” entrée menu, specials of the day are now being offered. For example, the special yesterday was an open face prime rib sandwich. Breakfast is available all day long. The full menu is offered from 10:00am until 7:00pm. In addition, homemade pizzas are available Thursdays through Sundays.

Such excitement!
