Carina Wilson is the new AmeriCorps Service and Social Innovation Coordinator assigned to Grinnell College’s Center for Careers, Life, and Service (CLS).

Carina will be spending time in The Mayflower Community and other community organizations, working on community building with a focus on intergenerational, community, and college engagement.

A Denver, Colorado native, Carina in her own words, “…grew up in a non-profit organization called Open Door Ministries. [I] lived in transitional housing homes for single women and their children through Open Door. The valedictorian of Jefferson High School’s 2015 senior class, [I] was the first in [my] family to receive a prestigious scholarship to Grinnell College through the national QuestBridge program that supports low-income merit based scholarships.”

Later at Grinnell College while pursuing a degree in anthropology (class of 2019), Carina became the president of QuestBridge Scholars.

In her role with The Mayflower Community, Carina will be focused on getting to know residents and programs to support the building of capacity for service and engagement. On October 14th, Carina told her story as the leadoff presenter in the regular meeting of the Mayflower “Story Circle.” 12 other residents followed with their stories of life highlights.

AmeriCorps is a national organization that offers individuals engagement in service work through building communities, addressing societal issues, and working to foster collaborative connections between multiple sectors in a given community.
