Recently, a number of Mayflower Community (Grinnell IA) residents and one daughter gathered for guidance in flower arranging presented by Mayflower resident, Betty Anne Francis.

Betty Anne was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where her family had owned a florist business dating back to the late 1800’s. She graduated with a B.S. in horticulture from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. In June 2011, Betty and her husband moved from Syracuse, New York to the Mayflower Community in Grinnell where her son Clayton is an emergency department M.D. at UnityPoint-Grinnell Hospital and daughter-in-law, Ann Ellis, is a professor of psychology at Grinnell College.

On Thursday, August 15th, interested residents gathered with their flowers in the Mayflower Basement Craft Room to create arrangements. Included was Heidi Roberts of Michigan, daughter of Bob and Dot Anderson. Heidi and Dot had foraged roadside flora for their piece.

As you can see from the attached photos, the results were beautiful. Pictured at top: The flower arranging group, led by Betty Anne Francis, far left. Seated is Phyllis Wood.
