Enjoying Online Pets at Mayflower

On Friday afternoon, February 18th, a number of The Mayflower Community (Grinnell IA) residents living in our Health Center, got to zoom meet with people and their pets.

A group called “Pets Together” https://petstogether.org/ provides virtual group video chats featuring volunteers across the country and their varied pets. In Friday’s Zoom meeting, a group of four volunteers were on the call, two in California, one in Virginia, and one in Wisconsin. All were accompanied by their dogs.

Six Mayflower residents joined the virtual meeting, facilitated by Community Life and Wellness Coordinator, Jessica Hasenyager. They engaged in conversations about their pets, as well as “Oohing” and “Aahing” over the cute dogs and their tricks on the screen.

Prior to this session, Mayflower residents, Doug and Lorna Caulkins, engaged in a call with a woman in North Carolina who raised a goat by bottle feeding her. She held the baby goat during their virtual meeting.

Plans are to continue the Zoom sessions. On presenter will be featured as she loads up her five Westie dogs their Winnebago to visit Forest City, Iowa.
