Doug and Lorna Caulkins Receive Prestigious Honor

Congratulations to Mayflower Community residents, Doug and Lorna Caulkins who have been named the 2018 recipients of the Greater Poweshiek Community Foundation Connie Marshall Spirit of Giving Award. The Foundation annually bestows this honor, which “celebrates an individual or couple with a lifetime of service to others through individual endeavors and through overall community involvement.” The award is made at the annual Spirit of Giving event, October 4, 2018.

Lorna is the retired Director of the City of Grinnell Drake Community Library. Doug is a Professor Emeritus of Grinnell College serving as Emeritus Director Wilson Program in Enterprise and Leadership, Department of Anthropology. They live in Mayflower’s new Watertower Square.

The award was initiated in 2012 to honor the life of the late Connie Marshall, for whom the award is named. Other Mayflower residents, living and deceased, who have received this honor initiated in 2012 include Art Heimann, Beryl and Mary Lou Clotfelter, Tom Marshall, Orlan Mitchell, and Sig and Judy Barber. With the help of these residents, Mayflower embodies the world of active aging and community involvement.
