On Thursday evening, February 9th, The Mayflower Community Lyceum hosted over 60 attendees. The Lyceums have now been opened to guests of residents. Ryan Dahlby Albright, M.D. sang and played guitar with selections from Taylor Swift, John Denver, Arlo Guthrie, Elvis, and other well-known and loved artists. On Thursday, December 15th, one of Grinnell’s most well-known musical groups, Shults & Company, performed for the weekly Mayflower Community Lyceum gathering. Led by retired music teacher and schools administrator, Frank Shults, the group is composed of local vocalists and instrumentalists. On Thursday, December 8th, The Mayflower Community celebrated re-establishment of a pre-pandemic tradition: A special dinner followed by entertainment in the Carman Center. The meal event was the Prelude to Christmas Dinner. Served in the warm atmosphere of the holiday-arrayed Buckley Dining Room, the dinner featured beef bourguignon, roasted vegetables, and Brussel sprouts and pomegranate.

The Mayflower Community (Grinnell IA) residents and their guests celebrated Oktoberfest, Amana-style on October 24th. The white-tablecloth dinner was served family style in the Buckley Dining Room after a short social time that featured wines and German beer. The dinner menu included appetizers (serving bowls on the tables!) of homemade applesauce, coleslaw, and rye bread.
