In these last days before Christmas, residents of The Mayflower Community celebrated Christmas in various ways. In our Health Center, residents made treats, decorated their homes with ornaments, received Christmas cards, and, on December 21st, celebrated the Winter Solstice. Before the weather turned cold and windy over this last weekend, Mayflower Community’s Community Life and Wellness staff accompanied Health Center residents on a tour of Mayflower’s and Grinnell’s Christmas lights. On Christmas Day, December 25, 2021, Grinnell’s Mayflower Community hosted a traditional dinner at noon. The menu included roast beef or ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, scalloped corn, cranberry pear salad, fruit compote, dinner rolls, and cheesecake for dessert. During the week of Christmas, Mayflower staff members dressed for the celebration. On Sunday “Pajama Day,” nurse Donna Puls was an elf in “too warm” flannel pajamas.
