When "Mayflower
Home" is mentioned, some people mistakenly think nursing home.
Mayflower is not a nursing home but it does have a full- service
health center.
Mayflower
is best characterized as a continuing care retirement community
(CCRC). This description requires that various levels of care
are provided on a continuum in a continuous whole. The various
types of care arrangements (independent living to include duplex
homes and apartments, certified assisted living suites, licensed
residential care units, and nursing care) are delivered on one
campus.
This
ideal arrangement has many advantages for the individual resident.
Most of the resourceswhich people will require in their lifetimes
are available in a single setting. The residents get acquainted
with staff members and, in turn, are known by Mayflower employees.
Thus a resident encounters familiar faces whenliving in an area
of Mayflower.
Today
there are 26O residents living at the Mayflower. About
70% live independently in their own personally furnished
private apartments or duplex homes. They come and go as
they please, living self-determined lives.
Residents
want to live independently as long as they are able When this
is no longer possible, assisted living or licensed residential
care is available. When nursing care services are needed, then
care in the health center is available.
These
multiple levels of care help residents to live at their highest
potential with the "peace of mind" knowing that support services
are there when needed. Many Mayflower residents never have to
rely on assisted living or nursing care, but they know these options
are available if the need should arise.
